We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Production / Technical Theatre Manager to join our passionate team and support our creativity!


About the Role

The Production / Technical Theatre Manager oversees all company theatre productions, projects, and special events. Reporting directly to the Executive & Artistic Director, this role coordinates all technical and logistical aspects of the production process—from early planning through final performance—ensuring artistic excellence, safety, and smooth execution. This central position works closely with the ED/AD, Artistic Staff, Designers, Stage Management, Guest Artists, and the Production Team. The Production / Technical Theatre Manager serves as both manager and resident technician, combining organizational leadership with hands-on technical execution. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, collaborative, and proactive individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills. This person thrives in a fast-paced environment, balancing artistic vision with operational precision to deliver exceptional productions from concept to curtain.


Position Details

  • Supervisor: Reports to Executive Director/Artistic Director (ED/AD)

  • Schedule: Flexible weekly hours with increased production intensity during tech and runs

  • Location: Hailey, ID; remote work possible for planning and administrative tasks

  • Compensation: Hourly or salaried, commensurate with experience

  • Start Date: As soon as possible

  • Some nights and weekends required during production periods

Key Responsibilities


Personnel Coordination

  • Train and manage production personnel, crew, volunteers, stage managers, etc.

  • Ensure consistent production reporting practices, create guides

  • Organize and schedule designer interviews, auditions, and callbacks in coordination with the ED/AD

  • Maintain a comprehensive contact sheet and contract database for all production personnel

  • Keep record of all performance and rehearsal venue requirements and rules

  • Facilitate production schedule for full season in support of the ED/AD

  • Staff and manage front-of-house personnel 


Production Oversight

  • Supervise and assist with all production load-ins and load-outs

  • Coordinate the use and movement of materials from company storage units and local partners

  • Assist directors and designers in accessing materials and organizing production needs

  • Review rehearsal and performance notes and address issues as needed

  • Oversee technical timelines and communication between departments

  • Serve as primary production liaison to ED/AD and creative teams

  • Organize and participate in interviews with designers, SMs, and directors

  • Maintain and update the full-season production calendar and load-in/load-out schedules

Administrative & Communications

  • Track and manage production budgets and technical theatre budgets

  • Maintain detailed records of production timelines

  • Support the overall mission of the company and ensure smooth integration of production with marketing, fundraising, and education efforts

  • Provide production updates for internal reports and attend production and staff meetings

Technical Direction

  • Oversee all technical production elements for TLTC’s mainstage season and events

  • Interpret scenic designs and lead scenic construction, installation, and strike

  • Supervise and execute lighting, sound, props, and technical operations

  • Coordinate and participate in all load-ins, strikes, and technical work calls

  • Maintain TLTC tools, storage spaces, and venue equipment in safe working order

  • Coordinate set/prop transportation and materials pickup via local partners and TLTC box truck

  • Provide technical access and support for visiting designers utilizing TLTC storage and materials

  • Train and support stage managers and technical staff with templates and guidance

  • Provide on-site support during tech rehearsals and throughout show runs

  • Optional: Resident lighting/scenic/sound designer (pending skill sets and interest)


The Ideal Candidate

  • 3+ years of experience in professional theatre production or technical direction (professional or academic settings welcome)

  • Strong scenic construction and technical theatre skills

  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and teams in a production environment

  • Familiarity with AEA guidelines and standard theatrical labor practices

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Respectful and positive collaborator and team player

  • Proficient with Google Workspace; comfort with Dropbox

  • Ability to read technical drawings and communicate effectively with designers

  • Comfortable working with ladders, tools, lifts, and other theatrical equipment

  • Collaborative, clear communicator able to lead diverse teams

  • Calm under pressure, able to provide a positive attitude to the work environment

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Valid driver’s license and comfort driving a box truck preferred
