The Importance of
Being Earnest
FEBRUARY 5-21
By Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest comes to the Liberty Theater in Hailey, bringing one of the great comedies of the stage to the Wood River Valley.
THE STORY
Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff each invent an alter ego named “Ernest” to escape social obligations and pursue romance. When their deceptions collide, the men find themselves tangled in escalating lies, mistaken identities, and rigid social rules they can no longer control. As the truth threatens to surface, Wilde exposes the absurdity of respectability, sincerity, and the roles people perform in order to be loved.
Precise, fast-moving, and filled with some of the most memorable lines in theatre history, The Importance of Being Earnest remains as entertaining — and as pointed — as ever.
